On March 1, 2016, a group of 11 missionaries set out for Wichita Kansas. Tre was starving because the day before they all fasted to gain spiritual guidance. The Elders gave blessings to the others in their district and then woke up at 2 a.m. to get ready to head to Salt Lake City airport for a 5 a.m. flight. A kind stranger asked if they wanted a picture and then texted it to everyone’s family. I was THRILLED! My first picture of my baby. Apparently, the old camera I sent doesn’t work. It does, but it is special. LOL.
Elder Candland called and spoke to us for about 50 minutes while he waited for his flight from Texas. His group was one of the last to spend two weeks (actually 12 days) in the MTC because new missionaries will be spending 3 weeks now. He was excited to head to Kansas but he would have like to stay one more week in the MTC. He was learning so much and understanding the atonement of Jesus Christ.

An Elder from Illinois (who recently moved to Utah) and another Elder from Utah made up his companion trio. They had a room to themselves, each having their own bunkbed. Apparently, they all snore but Tre claimed his was due to asthma. I hope their room wasn’t hard to keep clean because there were inspections. If your room was found to not be in order you were assigned more cleaning around the MTC.
They would wake up, eat and prepare for their appointments. Searching the scriptures to help the people they would teach with the things they wanted to know. Tre said they had many opportunities to exercise. He played basketball, four square, lifted weights, and ran around the campus. He lost 10lbs.

We emailed once a week and did Dear Elder. DearElder.com will print the letters each day and deliver them! He was also excited to receive a package. I sent him a photo album while Reese wrote him a card. Funny, he wasn’t there long and I wasn’t going to send junk food when there was food-a-plenty.
Tre said it was hard without music and if you know Tre, you know he LOVES music! The only music was when they were singing. Tre usually needs music to go to sleep but he said he was so tired he went right to sleep.
We have noticed it has been quieter around here. Tre always was singing. The other day, I was in the kitchen with the girls and we hear this singing. We looked at each other and then realized it was Reese! He was singing in the shower and we all giggled.
I asked Tre was there anything we forgot. A flashlight! They have lights out at 10 p.m. but you can finish writing in your journal if you have a flashlight. The first night he was in darkness but one of his companion’s family was prepared. He had four and was nice enough to give one to Tre. It’s the little things sometimes.
The girls were interested to know if Tre had got his hair cut. Tre has had a piece of hair up front above his forehead that sticks up. It’s different that a tail from the 80’s but the girls call it his duck tail. He told us haircuts are included in his accommodations and sounded quite posh about it. They really take care of their missionaries at the MTC with fattening foods and free haircuts!
He only had one day to attend the Provo temple but they were there for about 4 hours. He loved it.
I tracked his whereabouts through his debit card. He had to use his cash to pay for his luggage at the airport. I guess he will get reimbursed. Anyway, on Thursday, March 3 he went to Wendy’s in Dodge City, KS. Dodge City is the county seat of Ford County, Kansas, United States, named after nearby Fort Dodge. The city is famous in American culture for its history as a wild frontier town of the Old West.
Also, on Thursday he went to Walmart in Goodland, KS. I’m guessing he will be serving there. Goodland is roughly 17 miles east of the Colorado state line, 176 miles east-southeast of Denver, 265 miles northwest of Wichita, and 383 miles west of Kansas City.
I appreciate all the support. The gifts and money have really helped especially since Tre called me the night before he entered the MTC to say he needed $300 for his IPad.
He sends his love and misses everyone.
